B.Sc. (Hons) in Business Computing
This programme will provide you with the skills to use computer-based systems to solve business problems and support business processes. You will also gain sound knowledge of business areas such as marketing and business resource management and learn how to design and use some of the latest computer-based business systems.
The Programme
Putting together your business and computing knowledge, will allow you to use computers to meet the needs of business in a variety of work situations.
The first year of Business Computing introduces you to business and computing concepts, tools and techniques, Level 2 covers the development of user-centred systems including legal issues, marketing, networking, databases and the web and human computer interaction and usability.
In the final year, you will concentrate on the strategic role of information in business including critical problems in using IT and the use of IT for innovation and entrepreneurship. You will also undertake a major project that allows you to simulate the application of IT in a business situation.
Career Prospects
This course will equip you for a career in any of the main areas of business, where you will be able to use your computing skills. Your graduate destination is likely to be within a business area (such as finance, marketing or human resources) perhaps as a 'power user' (a computer literate business person who has the ability to get the best out of today’s computer-based business systems) or within a management services department as a business analyst.

This award combines the study of key aspects of marketing a business with a thorough understanding of computers in business and marketing.
The Programme
The programme provides an understanding of business functions, and how to use computers to support and improve business processes. It concentrates on various aspects of marketing in a modern IT literate world with particular emphasis on how to use IT to support effective marketing.
The first year introduces you to business and computing tools and techniques. Your specialism will then enable you to study marketing, retail marketing and management and planning alongside the use of databases which are now an essential tool of marketing. Level 3 combines a study of E-Marketing with marketing communications, planning and information management.
The final year includes a large project in the area of Business Computing
Career Prospects
You may become a business analyst, consultant or marketing manager, marketing researcher, market analyst, work in a dot com company or in e-retailing or marketing strategy as well as become an analyst of consultant with the potential to progress to senior general management positions.
B.Sc. (Hons) in Business Information Technology
In today’s competitive business world, information technology (IT) plays a major role in exploiting commercial potential. In many business sectors the special combination of IT and business skills is the key to being a market leader. The business information technology course focuses on using IT to solve business problems.
The Programme
The first year introduces you to business systems and computing concepts, tools and techniques. Level 2 covers the development of IT systems for business, including planning and forecasting, networking, databases and the web and Marketing.
In the final year, you will concentrate on the strategic role of IT, including critical problems in using IT and the use of IT for innovation and entrepreneurship. You will also undertake a major project that will allow you to simulate the application of IT in a business situation.
In the Group Case Study, you will work in teams to systematically solve a simulated business problem, developing proposed solutions involving the use of Information Technology.
Career Prospects
You will be well suited to one of the many careers that use IT in business at a management level. Your graduate destination is likely to be within an IT department, developing IT systems and servicing the IT needs of a number of business departments such as finance, marketing or human resources. You may take up a career in IT system development, IT systems analysis and design or IT network management.
B.Sc. (Hons) in E-Commerce
Electronic commerce or E-Commerce as it is popularly called, has begun to play a more dominant role in enabling business-to-business commerce through dedicated electronic data interchange and by exploiting the commercial potential of the internet.
The Programme
The programme provides a sound knowledge of how electronic data interchange and internet trading works and how such systems can be designed for and fitted into modern business and e-government.
The first year introduces you to business computing tools and techniques after which you will examine areas such as the development of online services interacting with databases, the security that needs to be in place for conducting business transactions along side development of skills to plan for business development and the principles involved in marketing. In the final year you will focus on entrepreneurship, development of enterprise applications online, the principles of e-marketing and the strategies involved in managing e-commerce systems. The final year project will allow you to develop a suitable online e-commerce application in a business environment.
Career Prospects
You will be suited to working within a traditional organization that wishes to develop its online presence. You may also find yourself as an entrepreneur developing your own marketing venture. E-commerce jobs are often very similar to those of a traditional organization other than that the majority of the interaction with customers is online. Your job roles can include market research, product buying decisions, and web design or maintenance.
