The School of Media, Art & Design (SoMAD) at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) marked a defining chapter in its journey with the celebration of its 10th Anniversary, held in conjunction with the Awards of Creative Excellence (ACE) 2025.
Celebrating a decade of growth, creativity and academic distinction, the landmark event took place on 13 December 2025 at Auditorium 6 and the Dining Hall, transforming APU’s campus into a radiant stage of reflection and festivity.
Entering the Golden Era
Anchored by the theme “A Golden Era”, the celebration unfolded against a shimmering backdrop of gold, symbolising achievement, resilience and future promise. The evening brought together a vibrant mix of students, alumni, lecturers, senior management, staff, and industry partners, all united in commemorating SoMAD’s evolution from its inception to its present standing as a creative powerhouse.
From the moment guests arrived, the atmosphere was unmistakably flamboyant—alive with laughter, anticipation and artistic energy. The blend of a formal ceremony space and a shared dining and networking environment created an immersive experience that was both celebratory and connective.
Honouring Pillars of Progress
The anniversary was graced by the presence of Datuk Parmjit Singh, Co-Founder and CEO of APU, whose visionary leadership has been instrumental in shaping the university’s creative ecosystem.
Joining him on stage were Associate Professor Wong Bee Suan of the School of Computing and Mr Selvaraja Singam, Manager of Facilities Safety and Welfare, all of whom were honoured as key contributors to SoMAD’s development over the years.
Their recognition underscored the collaborative effort behind SoMAD’s success—where academic vision, institutional support and operational excellence converge.
Celebrating Excellence and Commitment

At the heart of the evening was the ACE Awards Ceremony, which celebrated high-performing students, most improved achievers, and individuals who demonstrated outstanding creative excellence. These accolades reflected not only academic merit, but also innovation, perseverance and creative courage.

Equally meaningful was the recognition of long-serving lecturers, whose dedication and mentorship have shaped generations of creative talents and laid the foundation for SoMAD’s sustained achievements.
A Night of Connection and Creativity
Led by Head of SoMAD, Ms Debbie Liew Pooi Kuan, the programme was thoughtfully curated, featuring opening remarks, evocative video presentations, award segments, a birthday celebration, interactive games and captivating student performances. A full dinner further encouraged dialogue and networking, reinforcing a strong sense of community across generations and disciplines.
Looking Ahead with Gratitude and Purpose
Beyond celebration, the evening fulfilled its deeper purpose—strengthening community identity, inspiring students, acknowledging shared milestones, and reaffirming SoMAD’s commitment to nurturing creative, industry-ready graduates poised to shape the future.
Reflecting on the journey, Ms Debbie Liew shared, “This Golden Era belongs to everyone who has walked alongside SoMAD—our passionate staff and colleagues, our inspiring students and alumni, our generous sponsors and industry partners, and the senior leadership of APU, whose unwavering support made this journey possible.”
